Model numbers alone are insufficient for replacement selection, as Waterway has manufactured multiple pump variations under identical model designations that are not compatible with one another. Always match the specific part number to ensure proper fit and function.
The pump's motor may be equipped with either Century/A.O. Smith or U.S. Motors branding ("C" or "M")—both perform identically and are fully interchangeable. Low-speed amperage may range from 3.5 to 4.4 amps depending on motor brand, with no effect on overall performance. Built for durability and consistent operation in residential pool applications.
How to Understand Horsepower Ratings
When selecting a replacement pump, avoid relying solely on horsepower ratings from your spa manual or existing pump label. Horsepower designations like SPL-HP, BHP, MBHP, RHP, or S-HP do not represent true continuous operating horsepower and can be misleading or inflated. Installing an oversized pump risks damaging your hot tub system. Instead, match the exact Waterway part number from your current pump to ensure proper compatibility and safe operation.
When replacing your pump, the most reliable selection method is to reference the amperage rating from your existing pump's label rather than horsepower specifications. First, confirm whether your current pump is a 48 or 56 frame size. Then locate the high-speed amperage rating on the label—this specification provides an accurate basis for matching a compatible replacement. For 2-speed pumps, both high and low amperage ratings are listed on the label. Using amperage ratings ensures you select the correct pump and avoid installation errors that could damage your system.
How to Determine Hot Tub Pump Threaded Port Size
When replacing your pump, remember that port sizes listed on hot tub pumps are nominal measurements and do not represent the actual outside diameter of the threaded connections. To verify the correct thread sizes for your plumbing, measure the diameter of your existing pump's intake and discharge ports with a tape measure. This ensures you order a replacement with compatible plumbing connections and avoid installation complications.
